Beginnings and sources: Arabian Peninsula, Mohammed, the Qur’an, Hadith. The expansion: succession, initial spread, victories, Shia’s origin. Beliefs and practices: the five pillars, Prophethood, eschatology, fatalism, fundamentalism. Law and ethics: law schools, personal ethic, social ethic, justice. Spirituality: prayer, holy persons, forgiveness, Sufism. Relationships to Christianity and Judaism: peoples of the Book, clashes and encounters. Modern problems: woman status, family values, jihad, modern culture, faith and reason.
